I think that these days people are so caught up on using social media
and always checking your accounts. People thrive on that constant
connection with their friends and knowing what they are doing and seeing
all the new pictures from the weekend. It may seem harmless sometimes
but it can get you into some hot water. Have a bad day at work and want
to vent? Think twice before posting about it on social media. Have you
ever added your boss or other coworkers on social networking sites?
Think twice about what you post and what they will be able to see.
College students to middle aged adults are having trouble getting and
keeping jobs today because of their social networking sites. A woman in
Switzerland was fired after calling in sick because she "couldn't look
at the computer screen," later she was caught on Facebook and fired.
People are going to extremes with their social networking and I think it
is getting out of control.
To an extent I think that your social media page should be censored.
Nothing about binge drinking and how you woke up somewhere you didn't
recognize. What company would want to hire that? On the other hand I
think it gets out of control when companies look at who you are friends
with and are biased based on that. I understand that some of my friends
may not be the most professional people, but I am not allowed to catch
up with people based on their choices?
This semester I will research advice on how to "censor" your social
media and stories about times when people put their jobs in jeopardy due
to their posting.
